Joe's Gutters & Patios has installed seamless aluminum gutters on hundreds of Greater New Orleans homes since 1999. Every gutter run is custom-formed on your property from Spectra Gutter Systems and Senox coil stock — not pre-cut sections shipped from a warehouse. No seams in the middle of a run. No weak points. Just one continuous piece of aluminum, precision-cut to your home's exact measurements.
Why Gutter Quality Matters More in Louisiana Than Anywhere Else
Greater New Orleans averages over 62 inches of rainfall per year — nearly double the national average of 38 inches. During hurricane season, a single storm event can deliver 5–10 inches in a matter of hours. Your gutter system isn't a convenience in Louisiana. It's critical infrastructure.
Foundation issues
New Orleans area homes sit on clay-rich soil with a high water table. Water pooling at the foundation from inadequate drainage accelerates soil movement and settling.
Fascia and soffit rot
constant moisture exposure from overflowing or leaking gutters destroys wood fascia boards, often requiring expensive repairs before new gutters can be installed.
How We Install — What Makes Joe's Different
Hand Mitered Corners — Not Miter Strips
Every corner on every gutter we install is hand mitered — not cut-and-caulked with a miter strip. This is the single most important quality difference between a long-lasting gutter and one that fails in 3–5 years.
A miter strip is the fast, cheap approach: cut two sections at 45°, add a pre-formed strip, seal with caulk. Louisiana heat degrades that sealant in 2–4 years and the corner begins to leak.
A hand mitered corner is permanent. We form a continuous mitered joint at every inside and outside corner — no strip, no cheap caulk. We use Clemlink-Duralink sealant at every joint for a permanent seal.
Neoprene Washer Screws — Not Standard Sheet Metal
Every fastener we drive has a neoprene washer that creates a watertight seal at the fastening point. Standard sheet metal screws leave an entry point for water at every fastener location.
This prevents rust staining, fascia rot, and interior leaking at every screw location across the life of the gutter system.
Hanger Spacing — 30” Maximum, Not 36" Code Minimum
Building code allows hangers up to 36 inches apart. We install at 30 inches or closer. Louisiana gutters carry massive rainfall volumes and face severe winds — adequate hanger spacing is what keeps the gutter on the fascia.
A gutter installed at 36-inch spacing will sag and eventually detach under load or wind. Ours won't.
Proper Slope — Precision Pitch for Louisiana Volumes
Gutters must be pitched 1/4" per 10 linear feet toward the downspout. We use a level on every run — not by eye. A visually level gutter is usually pitched wrong.
Spectra Gutter Systems and Senox — Custom-Formed On-Site
Our gutter machine travels to your property and forms every run to exact length from Spectra coil stock. No joints in the middle of a run. Premium baked-enamel finish resists UV in Louisiana's intense sun.
We install 6" K-style gutters — the right choice for Louisiana's high annual rainfall volumes. If you currently have a 5" system, we can assess whether upsizing to 6" makes sense for your home.
Why We Install 6-Inch Gutters — Understanding the Difference
Factor
5-Inch K-Style (Not Offered)
6-Inch K-Style
Water capacity
1.2 gallons/linear foot
2.0 gallons/linear foot (+67%)
Best for
Smaller rooflines, average pitch
Large roof areas, steep pitch, high-rainfall exposure
Louisiana fit
Adequate for some homes
Recommended for most Greater New Orleans homes
Downspout size
2"×3" rectangular
3"×4" recommended
Common application
Smaller residential, sheltered elevations
Main elevations, large roofs, any home prone to overflow
We install 6-inch gutters exclusively. Greater New Orleans' 62"+ annual rainfall regularly exceeds what 5-inch systems handle efficiently — 6" is the right call for our climate. If you're replacing an existing 5" system, we'll upgrade you to 6" as part of the installation.
When to Replace Your Gutters Entirely
We'll always give you a straight answer. If repair makes more sense, we say so.

Gutters more than 20 years old — typical aluminum lifespan in Louisiana's climate

Multiple sections leaking, sagging, or pulling away from the fascia

Corners failing at multiple points across the system

Fascia board behind the gutters has rotted and requires replacement

Reroofing or repainting — ideal time to replace gutters cleanly

Undersized system (5" where 6" is needed) overflowing regularly
Our Installation Process — Step by Step

Fascia inspection — check for rot before any measurement. Rotted fascia is replaced first.

Precise measurement — every run, every corner, every downspout location.

Color selection — 30+ colors reviewed against your home's exterior.

On-site forming — gutter machine forms every run to exact length at your property.

Installation — pitched at 1/4" per 10 ft, 30" hanger intervals, hand mitered corners, neoprene washer screws.

FAQs
Gutter Installation FAQs
How long does seamless gutter installation take?
A single-story home typically takes 3–6 hours. Two-story or complex rooflines take a full day.
Do I need to be home during installation?
Not for the installation itself. We ask someone to be present at the estimate to walk the property together. Installation day just needs exterior access.
How much do seamless gutters cost in New Orleans?
Pricing varies by linear footage, profile (6" standard), corners, downspouts, and any fascia repair needed. All jobs are individually priced after an on-site assessment. Free estimates — call (504) 813-4293 for same-day scheduling in most areas.
My gutters are only 3 years old and already leaking — why?
Corner failure from miter-strip construction. The original installer used cheap caulk instead of hand mitered corners, and Louisiana's heat cycle has degraded it. This is the most common failure we see on newer gutters in New Orleans.
Do you remove the old gutters?
Yes — included in every replacement job. We remove the old system, inspect the fascia underneath, make necessary repairs, and dispose of all old material. No extra charge.
What gutter size is right for a New Orleans home?
6-inch K-style for most Greater New Orleans homes given the 62"+ annual rainfall. We make a specific recommendation at the estimate based on your roof area, pitch, and exposure.
Do I need permits for gutter installation in Jefferson Parish?
No — gutter installation on one- and two-family dwellings does not require a building permit in Jefferson Parish per parish code, except in designated historical areas. No permit hassle for most homes.
How do I know if my fascia needs replacement before new gutters?
Signs: gutters pulling away from the house, visible soft spots or discoloration behind the gutter, paint peeling on the fascia, water stains running down the exterior wall. We check this at every estimate.
Gutter Material Comparison — Why Aluminum Is the Right Choice for Louisiana
| Material | Rust Resistance | Weight | Lifespan | Maintenance | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aluminum (seamless) | ✅ Excellent — won't rust | Light | 20–30 years | Minimal | Mid-range |
| Galvanized steel | ⚠️ Fair — rusts when coating scratched | Heavy | 10–20 years in Louisiana humidity | Moderate | Similar to aluminum |
| Copper | ✅ Excellent — weathers to patina | Heavy | 50+ years | None | 4–8x cost of aluminum |
| Vinyl/PVC | ✅ Won't rust | Very light | 5–10 years (cracks in Louisiana UV) | Low but replacement needed | Cheapest upfront |
| Stainless steel | ✅ Superior | Heavy | 50+ years | None | Premium — rarely residential |
For Greater New Orleans homeowners, aluminum is the clear right answer — it won't rust in Louisiana's humidity the way galvanized steel eventually does, it handles thermal expansion in our climate better than vinyl (which becomes brittle under intense UV), and it's a fraction of the cost of copper or stainless steel. The baked-enamel finish on Spectra Gutter Systems and Senox coil stock resists UV fading significantly better than basic aluminum, which is why we use it.
How to Evaluate a Gutter Contractor — Questions to Ask Before You Hire
Do you use hand mitered corners or miter strips?
Hand mitered only. Any contractor who uses miter strips is installing a system that will fail at every corner within a few years in Louisiana's climate.
Are you licensed and insured in Louisiana?
Ask for the license number and verify it. Louisiana contractor license #CL.65670 is ours. No license means no accountability if something goes wrong on your property.
Do you form gutters on-site or bring pre-cut sections?
On-site forming is seamless. Pre-cut sections have joints.
What hanger spacing do you use?
30 inches or closer. Anything over 36 inches is code minimum and will result in sagging.
What fasteners do you use?
Neoprene washer screws. Standard sheet metal screws leave water entry points at every fastener.
Who does the installation — your crew or subcontractors?
Subcontractor work has less accountability. Our crew is our crew.
Do you inspect the fascia before installation?
If they don't mention fascia inspection, that's a problem.
Do you pull permits?
For gutters on one- and two-family dwellings in Jefferson Parish, no permit is required (except in designated historical areas). For any contractor who says they pull permits for standard gutter work in Jefferson Parish, that's either confusion or a way to pad the bill.
